A while back, we had a corrupted mailbox and one of our staff removed it and recreated a new one for this user. However, anyone in within our organization cannot email to this user (gets an NDR) but external incoming emails worked fine.
So I created an X500 email address for this user and problem solved. Now, we were wondering if we can remove all the x400 emails in Exchange and why do we even need the X500 email address. As for the X500, do you see them listed in the users exchange profile in EMC, under Email Addresses You may need the X500 ones, depending on how your migration was done and if your GAL needs updated.sorry not an expert on the X500 protocol. ![]() First, if I take out the user with the x500 addr, the problem is going to return. Second, why would we have so many users with the x400 email addresses. Become a member today and access the collective knowledge of thousands of technology experts. You can delete them, but if you are worried, simple remove them from one or a few as a test, give it some time, if all goes well and no one screams then get rid of them all. Those addresses are referencing an old mailbox that doesnt exist, so they are pretty much doing nothing. Ge X400 Problems How To Route TheOnly way I could possible see them coming into play (other than legacy apps) would be someone, somehow having that old address in their autocompleteaddress book and when they now try to send an email it would bounce back from your 2010 server as Exchange wouldnt know how to route the mail (if you delete it) and if thats the case then they should probably clean up their address book with proper email addresses. Depending on your Outlook version, they should be able to delete individual entries from that list by clicking the X to the right of the entry when it pops up while theyre typing the name. You can do it with powershell as well but why reinvent the wheel, and a very long wheel at that it would be when that app works awesome.
